Crested Butte Community Events June 2015 – From the desk of David Ochs – CB Chamber Director
Once again the true color and flavor of Crested Butte hit the streets of Elk Avenue as we welcomed Ride the Rockies this past Wednesday. What a day it was! No rain, a dreamy June blue sky day, four local bands, local vendors in the bike industry and bike organizations, local food vendors, and of course the backdrop and businesses only Elk Avenue can provide were a HUGE hit for our guests, visitors, and locals alike. I saw a lot of smiles out there, and heard a lot of comment about these folks coming back to see us again. They were blown away! You did it again Crested Butte! Let’s continue to show these good people coming what we are all about.
Up next its CB Bike Week and we have some changes in store. Full schedule of events below and at cbchamber.com, and we could use your help in some areas if interested in volunteering. We have parties and prizes coming with each event and those who lend a helping hand can receive free entry into the events, libations, prizes, and plenty of swag. Call Eliza or Dave at the Chamber if you want to help out, or have any questions. MOST IMPORTANT for you local folks…. Tickets for the Chainless are moving fast, and will sell out at 300. Online reg will close on Thursday, June 25th at 9:00am. You can register day of at the Chamber, but it could be sold out in advance! See below for tickets, registration, and event info.

Bridges of the Butte 24-Hour Townie Tour—June 27 & 28, 2015 Noon to Noon
Bridges of the Butte 24-Hour Townie Tour, a Crested Butte style bike-a-thon has become an iconic event that kicks off the summer and raises over $40,000 for the ASC scholarship fund. The scholarship fund enables people with disabilities to participate in life-changing outdoor adventure activities. This event sells out with 300 riders (don’t miss out—Register now!) a full third of whom come from out of town to participate.
Safety is a central value of the Adaptive Sports Center and is a high priority for all ASC activities and events. A major tenant in the safety plan for Bridges of the Butte is the closure of parking for the south side of Elk Ave from 2nd to 5th for the entirety of the event. The ASC thanks you in advance for your amazing support of this event and understanding in the need to close the parking on this section of Elk. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Emily Girdwood emily@adaptivesports.
Bridges of the Butte relies on the support of the dedicated people who come out and volunteer each year. Volunteers are needed to fill many roles including but not limited to course marshals to keep the riders safe, basecamp volunteers to count laps and support the riders and breakdown volunteers to clean up the course. To volunteer please click here!

To celebrate the summer solstice the Crested Butte Mountain Runners will host a twilight run and cookout this Friday June 19th, starting at 7.30pm.
The run will start at the Walrod Gulch trailhead on Cement Creek road and then follow the road up to the Homeowners trail and then down to Pioneer Guest Ranch. The course then crosses Cement Creek road and onto trail 409 (the caves trail) and climbs up past the caves to trail 418 and over to Walrod Gulch. At that point the course will turn down the road back to the start. The distance is about 6 miles on single track trail and gravel roads. To reach the start drive about 2 ½ miles up Cement Creek road to the Walrod Gulch trailhead.
After the run Brian Dale will host the 19th annual “Brian’s beer, brats, boys and babes bash” complete with beer (or soda) and brats (or veggie burgers for those so inclined), so bring warm clothing and plan to hang out around the bonfire after the run.
Registration will be at the start and the cost is $5 for non-club members. Membership for the full season is $25.
For more information, please call Martin at 349-5326 or go to www.cbmountainrunners.org.
