Summer is here which means many have camping on their mind. If you are planning a camping trip in the Gunnison Valley, the Lake Irwin Campground should be on your list. Located just over 8 miles west of the town of Crested Butte, Colorado, the Lake Irwin Campground boarders the eastern side of beautiful Lake Irwin in the shadows of the stunning Ruby Range of the Elk Mountains. There’s no need to backpack deep into the backcountry to find a beautiful mountain camp site. Often said to be one of the most beautiful National Forest campgrounds in Colorado, the Lake Irwin Campground offers campers a choice of 30 sites, facilities and firewood for purchase, all included in the $16 per-night camping fee. Campers will enjoy all of the wonderful activities offered up by Lake Irwin such as fishing, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, and sailing. Bring your mountain bike and enjoy the miles of trails in and near the Lake Irwin Campground or explore the dirt roads on your motorcycle or ATV. There are plenty of trails in the surrounding Raggeds Wilderness which do not allow motor vehicles, perfect for hikers.
