New Oh Be Joyful Gallery in Telluride, Colorado!!
Walt Gonske, Brazos Snow Patches, 20 x 24″, oil
Greetings!
I am pleased to inform you that the Oh-Be-Joyful Gallery has opened a second gallery in Telluride, Colorado.
This expansion will allow us to serve both our artists and our patrons better. Our expanded painting inventory will be actively rotated between the two galleries. By doing this we can offer more paintings to an expanded patronage base. This expansion of our market base makes the gallery more attractive to top artists, and we have already added a handful of very top shelf artists to our roster.
I am very proud to say that Walt Gonske, who is among the most highly regarded and collected landscape painters in the country, has provided us paintings for both galleries.
Jill Carver, Bill Gallen, and Kenn Backhaus, all nationally recognized painters, will be sending paintings to the gallery soon.
Ralph Oberg has just provided us our first large Oberg landscape for sale. Please see the image in the sidebar.
Up and coming impressionistic painter, Gregory Packard has given us a spectacular group of new paintings.
Also, Don Sahli, a leading mid-career painter from Colorado has provided two paintings. Don is and excellent painter and a popular workshop teacher. I’m pleased to share that Don will be teaching a three-day workshop with the OBJ Gallery on July 5, 6, and 7th 2013, in Crested Butte.
Please stop by and visit us in Crested Butte or Telluride to experience some of the most exciting landscape paintings of the day!
I’ll be writing again soon to share more about the artists we now represent.
Thank you,
Shaun Horne

Dawn Cohen featured artist for August ArtWalk
Greetings!
Please join us at the Oh Be Joyful Gallery for ArtWalk Thursday, August 30th from 5-8pm and enjoy works by local artist Dawn Cohen. Dawn had a great summer of painting the Crested Butte scenes and backcountry landscapes. She continues to amaze us with her lively color and brushwork. Her attention to the intense, high altitude light and its play on flowers, town architecture and our surrounding mountains infuses her paintings with the feel of Crested Butte.
Next month, Dawn will be exhibiting work at the Atlanta Arts Festival on September 15th and 16th in Piedmont Park in Mableton, GA. If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by to say hello and to enjoy paintings from Crested Butte and Savannah, GA. To see her latest works, click here.
Hope to see you at ArtWalk!

The Crested Butte ConnoisseurBrought to you by Corey Dwan of Benson Sotheby’s International Realty Hi Everyone,One of the busiest summers in recent years is coming to a close as the onset of fall approaches. The warm 80 degree days have given way to cooler temperatures here in Crested Butte, Colorado. For the last week or so the skies have been cloudy with smoke from the fires out west but are beginning to clear as if to welcome one of the world’s largest bike races into town. To help welcome the US Pro Cycling Challenge Crested Butte (downtown on Elk Avenue) is holding the “Last Sprint Block Party” tonight starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending whenever the last straggler makes it home. Festivities will include great deals at participating restaurants (look for red, white and blue balloons), “Light my Bike” evening townie ride, New Belgium and Avery Beer Garden, live music, “KBUT Radio Late Night” and street games. So get in your car now and join the Crested Butte festivities!
Stage Two and Three of The US Pro Cycling Challenge begin tomorrow! Make sure you come, even for a day or two, to experience the most exciting cycling race in the world. Stage 2 of the Pro Cycling Challenge starts in Montrose at 11:25 a.m. and then proceeds 99.2 miles with an elevation gain of 8,049′ to finish at the base of Mt. Crested Butte. Stage Three begins at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday morning in Gunnison and travels 130.5 miles to Aspen with an elevation gain of 9,623′. Even if you’re not a road cyclist this is an event not to miss. For more information on this leg of the race click here. Traffic into and out of the valley will be disturbed briefly, click here for road closure information.
Crested Butte Bear Warning
I am sure some of you have heard that the bears are out in full force in the valley at the moment as they prepare for their upcoming hibernation. Please be advised when visiting our valley to lock all first floor windows and doors and any second floor windows and doors if accessible by a deck or a tree. If a window or door is left open only an inch the bears can and will get in. So far the only damage has been to property, luckily no one has been hurt so please take caution.
Crested Butte Market Update
Regarding home and condo sales in the upper valley we have closed 125 transactions so far this year totaling $52,622,013. Another 41 properties are under contract totaling $19,431,199 so we are approaching last year’s sales totals even with it being an election year which are historically slower. Land sales remain slightly higher than last year with 35 transactions closed since January 1, 2012 worth $6,425,500. With eight more totaling $3,072,700 under contract we are on par to surpass last year’s sales number. More construction on the horizon?
For those of you that receive my weekly foreclosure, short sale and bank owned Distressed Property Email you already know that an astounding 43% of the single family homes and condos are now under contract. This further diminishing of the distressed inventory in the upper valley has put enormous pressure on active buyers and has created multiple bidding war situations on the best price product.
